Field Operation:

Sonde and sliding pipe plug is placed in the pipe
Surface electrode is placed in the ground at a fixed location
The sliding pipe plug can be pulled along pipe while preventing water flow
Pipe is partly filled with enough water to fill the pipe at the sonde location
The water level is continuously monitored by a pressure gauge in the sonde
Sonde is pulled through the pipe at a speed of 30 ft/minute
Electic current is measured and displayed in real time on a notebook computer

Interpretation:

Trace amplitude related to size of defect.
Length and location of trace anomaly is that of defect.
Nature of anomaly related to character of defect (see examples)
Computer program used to summarize defects (see example)
